Abstract. This article is part of the author’s thesis research. The object of the study is virtual communication, which is understood as communicative interaction in the global Internet. The subject of the study is the blog of a German language teacher «Einfach Deutsch lernen» as a genre of Internet communication on the YouTube platform. The purpose of the study is to describe the multimedia component of the genre specificity of the Internet communication format and the communicative interaction of its participants. In order to achieve the research goal, the following tasks were set: to disclose the concepts of «communicative interaction» and «virtual communication», to consider their features and main attributes; to investigate different typologies of social interactions, understanding the quantity and quality of individuals involved in the interaction process; to consider the functions of educational blogs; to analyze the media and multimedia characteristics of the blog. The article describes the communicative interaction taking place in the virtual space, which is characterized by the following features: mediated communication, brevity and communication channel; the main functions of educational blogs, which include: a means of informing, a means of accompanying the educational process, a means of professional communication; since blog technology is becoming more and more widespread in the educational sphere, the author focused on the study of virtual communicative interaction within the mediatized genre of pedagogical discourse in German linguoculture by the example of an educational video blog of a teacher on the YouTube platform; the author presented a brief analysis of the blog of a German language teacher, considered the media characteristics of the blog and partially analyzed the multimedia characteristics of the blog, such as: the genre’s interface and polycodability. The purpose of further research is to analyze the following characteristics: hypertextuality, interactivity, synchronicity/asynchrony and compare them with an educational blog of another foreign language.
