Abstract. In the creative work of many writers, the theme of love plays a significant role. It is inextricably linked with the images of certain women who give writers this feeling.

Mansi writer Yuvan Shestalov came to literature in the late 50s of the twentieth century. In his work, he covered various themes related to the traditional culture of the native people, the homeland, and the nature of the North. His creativity is due to the events of the time, reliance on folklore, genre and style innovation, autobiography as a special way to justify religious, philosophical, moral and aesthetic ideas. The theme of love in the work of Yu. Shestalov occupies a special place. And especially vividly it is represented by the example of the writer’s wife – Liliya. The name of the poet’s beloved Lily is consonant with the Mansi word «Lily» – «breath», «soul». For the writer, this name became an iconic and symbolic phenomenon. Yu. Shestalov was left without a mother early; her image in his work is closely interrelated with the motif of loneliness. In his youth the poet was hoping that the meeting with the beloved will be able to pacify the emotional pain. If in his early poems there was a motif for searching for a beloved, then finding love gave the hero strength, and the lyrics were filled with happiness and joy. Poetizing his heroine, Yu. Shestalov relates her to the ideal woman. She is not only a keeper of the hearth and the beloved, she is the Savior of his «Lily» – soul, Muse and guardian angel.

The relevance of the article emphasizes that the theme of love and the image of the beloved in the work of the Mansi writer Yu. Shestalov did not become an object of study in literary studies.
