Abstract. Everything that occurs in the sphere of the Russian holiday now is result of «festive hunger». It is important to know that the holiday is a good diagnostician who testifies to diseases of society. Why not to draw conclusions from the historical past that this element of culture to revive and use for designated purpose fully? The phenomenon nature such is that having been born at the beginning of human culture, it becomes such part of our life which will not die until we live…

Besides, according to a dissertation research of the author, holiday is a criterion of humanity and one of life ordering sources. Enduring decline for some periods of history, it does not disappear altogether; moreover, it is considered to be the most ancient of constantly reproduced sources. Data on the phenomenon of interest are various. However, comprehensive answers to such issues of importance as essence of holiday, its social and political significance, communication with other aspects of public life, etc., have not still been found by scientists. Besides, the known cultural and philosophical concepts still have no well-reasoned methodology of the phenomenon studying. According to the author of the thesis, the attention paid to holiday as independent institution promotes not only preservation of experience of the past, but also the modern festive relations progress.
