Abstract. In this article the author analyzed diachronic changes of the associative/psycholinguistic meaning of the word “disease”. The research of the dynamic of the meanings of a word is up to date for the analyses of the inner content, which has not been reflected in the dictionary yet, and which is exposed to changes due to the influence of exstralinguistic factors. The material for comparative analysis is taken from Russian associative dictionary (2002), Russian regional associative dictionary of European part of Russia (2014) and the results of own experiment, which was carried out in autumn in 2021. The author has proved quantitative and qualitative changes of associative meaning of the verbal unit under research. Under the influence of the corona virus disease pandemic the image of “disease” is more often associated with condition, less with characteristics, especially neutral. The author underlines the stable connection of the word “disease” with an object, which results in negative conditions and has negative connotations. The peculiarity of the perception of a disease by the representatives of Russian culture is personification. This peculiarity is especially vivid among people of earlier researches. The decreasing amount of associations which describe heart diseases, inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus, acquired immune deficiency syndrome proves successful treatment of these diseases and prophylaxis and effective informing of people. Still, cancerous disease influences seriously consciousness of people of different generations, in spite of the appearance of a new unknown corona virus disease. This disease has a reflection in people’s conscientiousness but is not included in the nuclear of language consciousness. With time, the importance of medicine and pills in the fight against a disease has increased, the faith in treatment has strengthened — all these allows us to conclude the development of the level of medicine and health service in our country.
