Abstract. The following methods were used in the analysis of linguistic material: descriptive analysis, definitional component analysis, interpretative analysis, and comparative analysis of definitions of the concept under study. The purpose of the article is to conduct a comparative analysis of the concept «curiosity» / «inquisitiveness» in English and Russian linguistic cultures. The authors describe the theoretical aspects of this concept and its cultural code, emphasizing that it has an ethnically specific label, which is reflected in the National Language Corpus. Through a comparative analysis of a corpus of the studied material, specific conditions for using the concept of «curiosity» / «inquisitiveness» were revealed in two different linguistic cultures. In the process of analyzing the English language corpus, it was found that the concept of «curiosity» has several meanings with both positive and negative connotations. The analysis of definitions of this concept in the Russian language revealed a number of features. The authors consider that the meaning of curiosity in idioms has a negative connotation in both linguistic cultures. As a result, it was discovered that in these linguistic cultures, «curiosity» / «inquisitiveness» can have both positive and negative evaluative meanings. National-cultural specificity of this concept in English-speaking culture is determined by national mentality and is not widely represented. However, in Russian-speaking culture, this concept is expressed by two words — curiosity and inquisitiveness. This article may be of interest to specialists in the fields of lexicology, stylistics, and linguoculturology.
