Abstract. This article provides a comparative analysis of language means that characterize the manifestation of the author’s individual style features in the scientific and popular science articles. An overview of the domestic and foreign scientists’ theoretical works reveals the concept of individual style. It is concluded that this concept can be used to describe the stable individual characteristics of a linguistic personality, reflecting its unique ways of presenting information. The aim of the study is to highlight the key idiostyle components contained in the scientific and popular science articles of the authoritative Canadian scientist Steven Pinker. The objectives of the study are: to clarify the concept of «idiostyle» in comparison with the such terms as «idiolect» and «author’s style»; determination of the idiostyle originality of the scientist’s linguistic personality; identification and comparison of idiostyle characteristics of the texts of scientific and popular science articles; the establishment of the author’s idiostyle dominants. The scientific novelty of the study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the implementation of the idiostyle in texts of different genres belonging to the same author. The study reveals a number of individual features of the scientist’s linguistic personality, which can be seen at all linguistic levels. It has been established that the functional purpose of similar author’s language means depends on the genre of the text in which they are used. The practical significance of the study refers to the application of the results in the studying the features of scientific and popular science texts, as well as it offers the possibility of identifying the features of the manifestation of an individual author’s style in the texts of scientific and popular science articles. The results obtained shows that the individual author’s style is a significant parameter of the scientist’s linguistic personality, which embodies the fundamental unit of knowledge of the picture of the world. Despite the fact that the scientist’s linguistic personality is limited by the sustainable creating traditions of scientific and popular science texts, there are a number of opportunities to express the uniqueness of personal style by different linguistic means, which can be varied by existing models of text formation.
