Abstract. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that crime prevention in the penitentiary system is one of the key tasks of the state aimed at curbing recidivism. Understanding that crime is caused by social factors makes it possible to realize the possibilities of its prevention through changing social conditions and moral education of prisoners, including improving educational work in their immediate environment. Penitentiary prevention should be based on scientifically sound concepts and practices aimed at preventing antisocial behavior in places of detention. The fight against crime in the penitentiary system is an integral part of the State strategy for combating crime in all spheres of life of an individual, society and the State. The article discusses the issues of detecting and preventing violations of the regime of detention in correctional institutions as an important part of the work on the correction of convicts, the re-socialization of convicted persons, criminogenic situations and factors contributing to the occurrence of crime among persons in places of deprivation of liberty. The behavior of persons serving sentences in certain conditions of detention, which can become a determinant factor in the commission of crimes, is investigated, and the importance of providing individual psychological assistance to convicts as a preventive measure is noted. In the course of the study, attention is focused on eliminating gaps in the educational level of convicts, explaining the need to implement educational programs and conduct explanatory work, which will contribute to the level of legal awareness of persons serving sentences. The issues of the level of education and competence of correctional officers, who must have knowledge in the field of penitentiary conflictology and psychiatry in order to successfully complete their tasks, are also being investigated.
