Abstract. This article reveals the significance of the role of the historical factor in the gender education of men. The article presents a theoretical analysis of the problems of gender education of men from a historical perspective. The problem of transforming the authority of motherhood and paternity, cardinal transformations of modern realities of political and socio-psychological life, which contribute to a decrease in the value of the family and transform the role of men in it, are raised. The following definitions are defined: «gender», «sex», «identity», «gender identification», «gender education», «gender socialization». These concepts are compared in foreign and domestic literature, their similarities and differences are determined. It is determined that the common concept for the definitions «sex», «sexual identity», «gender identity» is the category «masculinity/femininity» as a correlate of identity, and the concepts of «sex» and «gender» identity are not synonymous. It is noted that thanks to gender identification, the formation of the personality of a boy and a girl is carried out in different ways. The issues of raising girls and boys are raised from a historical perspective, from the 18th century to the present day. A four-stage periodization of pedagogical views regarding gender differences is presented. The features of raising boys are considered, the problem of reducing the role of men, intra-role conflict between the roles of men, fathers and husbands, the emergence of the phenomenon of feminization in the modern emancipated world, realities and consequences are raised. In modern society, it has historically developed that the social value and masculine traits of men are valued higher than those of women. At the same time, social pressure on boys to conform to the image of a man, masculinity, is also more pronounced. The article raises the problem of contradictory requirements for the role of a man, when the values formed in the process of socialization do not correspond to the new qualitatively transformed role of a man, husband and father.
