Abstract. The article describes the intentional orientation of the scientific linguistic text. The author, turning to the analysis of modern scientific texts, sets the task to describe the intentional orientation of self-presentation in the text and to determine how the scientist, along with the implementation of the main cognitive orientation, presents himself to the readership and how, in what speech form it is manifested. The author revealed that the basis of this type of text is four intentional directions: focus on the discussion of scientific problems, focus on the opponent (another scientist), focus on the audience (scientific reading community) and the focus of the author on himself. Each of these directions, according to the author, concretizes a set of characteristic intentions relevant in the situation under consideration. Thus, the focus on the «scientific problem» is expressed in the desire to present or clarify the results of the study, to analyze the problem, to specify the presented facts, etc. The Focus on another scientist is manifested in the form of such intentions as clarification of position, expression of attitude, treatment of advice or a wish, clarification of mutual understanding. Focus on themselves-in an effort to identify their own contribution to the problem under study. Focus on the readership – in attracting and retaining attention.
