Abstract. Preservation of the historical memory of the actual challenge for society, which seeks to develop in organic for yourself. Cities with an industrial past, such as Yekaterinburg, has a large layer of everyday culture associated with amateur creativity townspeople, which in Soviet times was massive. The article announced the project of Ekaterinburg Academy of contemporary art to conduct a city-wide contest «Artbulvar». Revealing the idea contest the authors describe the historical context of the formation of social and personal meanings of one of the Central streets by Uralmash-plant – Boulevard Culture. These meanings (culture as common heritage, as a form of creativity, as a space of collective forms of leisure) clearly manifested through the activities of the two houses of culture (the «old DK» and «new DK») and may be lost, since both agencies today called «the center of cultural life» of the region only nominally. The authors offer on a competitive basis in the public discussion format to create small sculptural forms, intended bring Boulevard and remind about the artists-amateurs working in welding shops of the plant-giant, and in her spare time studying art. For these people the name of Boulevard (then – Street) was quite clear meaning and culture houses really promoted a «culture for the masses».
