Special attention is paid to the study of verbal fractals and nested syntax as forms of manifestation of the recursive principle at various levels of the language system. The theoretical foundations of the concept of recursion, the history of the development of this field in domestic and foreign linguistics, as well as modern scientific approaches to understanding the self\u2011similarity of linguistic structures are considered. The views of N. Chomsky, M. Hauser, W.T. Fitch, D. Everett, L.S.
