Abstract.<\/strong> In modern linguistics and literary studies, research devoted to various manifestations of intertextuality as one of the most important mechanisms for organizing a literary text occupies a special place. Traditionally, scholars have focused their attention on studying quotations, reminiscences, allusions, precedent texts, and other ways of incorporating \u00abforeign words\u00bb into the structure of a work. However, cases in which the object of borrowing is not the lexical composition of the original work, but its syntactic organization, have been studied much less. It is precisely this phenomenon that allows us to speak of the existence of a syntactic cento \u2014 a special type of intertextuality based on the reproduction of the structural model of someone else\u2019s statement, with a complete or partial change in its verbal content.<\/p>\n

The article examines the theoretical foundations of the syntactic cento as an independent philological phenomenon and traces the history of the development of the concept of \u00abcento\u00bb from ancient literature to the present day. The main approaches of Russian researchers to understanding intertextuality, stylistics, and poetic syntax are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the concepts of M.M. Bakhtin, Yu.N. Tynyanov, I.V. Arnold, N.A. Fateeva, and M.L. Gasparov, whose ideas make it possible to view syntactic structures as carriers of cultural memory and stable artistic models.<\/p>\n

Based on an analysis of works of Russian literature from the 19th\u201320th centuries, the main ways in which the syntactic centon are used are identified, its structural features are defined, and the mechanisms for preserving the intonational and compositional framework of the original text when the lexical content is replaced are revealed. Special attention is paid to comparative studies of the works of A.S. Pushkin, M.Y. Lermontov, N.V. Gogol, V.V. Nabokov, A.A. Blok, I.L. Selvinsky, and other authors, which demonstrate various forms of syntactic centonization.<\/p>\n
