The relevance of the study is determined by the need to ascertain how the rapid development of communication technologies and the digitalization of society influence the derivational mechanisms of a thematically restricted lexical subsystem and what linguistic and sociocultural factors govern the shift in word-formation priorities. For the first time, drawing on the lexicographic resource «Novoe v russkoi leksike. Slovarnye materialy» («New in Russian Vocabulary. Dictionary Materials»), the author comprehensively traces the dynamics of productivity of affixal, compound, and hybrid models in this subject area. The research was carried out using descriptive-classificatory, structural-semantic, and word-formation analysis methods. As a result, three chronological stages were identified: the era of fixed telephone lines (1977–1994), the era of mobile communication and digitalization (1995–2009), and the era of smartphones and multimedia integration (2010–2024). It has been established that the suffixation dominant in the early period is being replaced by compounding without a linking vowel with an initial indeclinable attributive part and by hybrid derivation combining borrowed and native elements. At the same time, a semantic shift has been observed from the naming of material devices to the designation of communication practices, digital services, and social scenarios. The identified tendencies are interpreted as manifestations of two complementary vectors of language development — internationalization and democratization — which in the digital environment are realized through the mechanisms of «new orality». The conclusion is drawn that the evolution of telephone vocabulary clearly demonstrates the adaptability of the Russian lexical system, which flexibly combines internal derivational potential with the active assimilation of foreign-language material.

Keywords: Russian language; word formation; telephone-related vocabulary; neologization; hybrid word formation; borrowings; diachronic analysis

Wang Yuzhi Saint Petersburg State University, Saint Petersburg, Russia E-mail: Kuonjishi@yandex.com ORCID: https://orcid.org/0009-0000-2184-7700 Abstract.
