One of these processes is the execution of a custodial sentence. In the course of which a specific social community is formed \u2014 the \u00abpenitentiary society\u00bb. An important feature for its organization is the open nature not only of the society itself, but also of the social relations that are formed in the process of applying penitentiary practices to convicts. In sociology, it is axiomatic to say that any closed social community generates certain informal relationships. The nature of these relationships is usually determined by the social nature of such an education. In particular, as a feature of the closed society formed by those sentenced to imprisonment in a correctional institution, there is such a social education as the \u00abpenitentiary community\u00bb. According to the author of the article, the presence of a penitentiary community can be considered as one of the main destabilizing factors preventing correctional impact on convicts. As a result, it is difficult to determine the life prospects of a convicted person after serving a custodial sentence. The difficulty of choosing, in addition to the objective difficulties of a social and living arrangement after release, is also dictated by subjective ones \u2014 the convict has formed a specific scale of values. After release, a convicted person must either continue to adhere to informal penitentiary imperatives or abandon them. In particular, the author notes that representatives of the penitentiary community are not faced with such a choice.
