Its profound and expanding influence across political, economic, and cultural dimensions has introduced new content and perspectives to translation pedagogy, particularly in the domain of socio-political translation in various countries. This study explores the relevance and challenges of integrating the «Belt and Road Initiative» into the curriculum of the course «Socio-Political Translation (Chinese Language)» at Russian universities. A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining anonymous surveys of 15 instructors and 60 senior students from five state universities with non-participant classroom observations. The findings indicate that although more than 90 % of instructors regard the study of the initiative as highly relevant for translator training, its incorporation into educational programs remains fragmented and predominantly theoretical. Most instructors rely primarily on lectures and text analysis, with limited use of translation software, text corpora, or interpreting simulations. Based on these findings, the paper proposes targeted reforms, including the development of modular curricula, the implementation of project-based and simulation-based methods, and the strengthening of cooperation with Chinese universities. These reforms aim to enhance students’ intercultural competence and practical translation skills, thereby contributing to the modernization of translator education in the field of socio-political translation within the context of global geopolitical discourse.

Keywords: «Belt and Road Initiative» (BRI); socio-political translation; Russian universities; Chinese; teaching practices; reform strategies

Lagutkina Margarita Dmitrievna Peoples Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba, Moscow, Russia E-mail: lagutm223@alibagl.com Zhang Yu Peoples Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba, Moscow, Russia E-mail: 1042245059@pfur.ru Abstract.
