Its relevance is explained by the long-standing interest of philologists in Bunin’s idiostyle; the special significance of depicting nature and landscapes in his artistic legacy; and the limited character of existing scientific descriptions of the choice of lexical means for explicating the external natural world. The purpose of the article is to identify the composition of the lexical-semantic group «Coniferous Trees» in the poetry of Ivan Bunin and to establish the features of their syntagmatic connections in contexts. The research material was the scientific edition of Bunin’s poetry (2014). The author’s card index of examples was formed by 237 phytonyms extracted from the publication by the continuous sampling method. It was established that Bunin’s phytonymic system includes 22 lexical and semantic groups of phytonyms, one of which is «Coniferous Trees». The analyzed group consists of ten single-word lexemes and one bi-lexeme. There are relations of optionality or derivation between them. The most frequent lexemes in Bunin’s poetic speech are pine (сосна), cypress (кипарис), and spruce (ель). In poetic contexts, the phytonyms of the group under consideration enter into syntagmatic relations with a certain range of substantive, attributive, and verbal lexemes. Thus, it is noted that they can be combined with substantives that have figurative meanings; adjectival lexemes with the semes ‘color’, ‘emotion’, ‘smell’, etc.; verbs with the meaning of state, spatial position, speech and mental activity, etc. The author concludes that the marked combinatorics of units indicates the implementation of several characteristic techniques of Bunin’s idiosyncratic style, such as emphasis on details, anthropomorphization of nature, color imagery, and synesthesia.

Keywords: I.A.
