The relevance of this study stems from the linguocultural interest in stereotypes of woman and man entrenched in language, as well as the insufficient research on Uyghur phraseological comparisons. A comparative analysis was conducted on 65 Russian fixed comparisons (based on data from dictionaries by V.M. Ogoltsev, V.M. Mokienko, L.A. Lebedeva) and 22 Uyghur fixed comparisons (identified from a survey of native speakers). The connotative features of the similes are examined: idealized masculine traits (courage, willpower, bravery) are contrasted with disapproved qualities (cowardice, talkativeness, stubbornness, etc.) A sociolinguistic survey (54 Russian speakers and 25 Uyghur speakers) on the knowledge and usage of these similes was carried out. It was found that many Russian comparisons remain active in speech (e.g., «stubborn as a ram» — upryamy kak baran), reflecting traditional stereotypes: the idealization of a man via images of strong and noble beings (lion, knight, etc.) and negative evaluation of «undesirable» male qualities through comparison to women and children. An analysis of Uyghur stable comparisons describing the inner qualities and behavior of men showed that positive images are presented in the Uyghur language more often and vividly than negative ones (in the ratio of 49 negative to 16 positive stable comparisons in Russian and 5 negative to 17 positive stable comparisons in the Uyghur language).

Keywords: stable comparison; Russian language; Uyghur language; phraseology; image of a man; linguoculturology; mentality

Subiinuer Saint Petersburg State University, Saint Petersburg, Russia E-mail: 1550799050@qq.com ORCID: https://orcid.org/0009-0001-3619-8085 Khrunenkova Anna Valentinovna Saint Petersburg State University, Saint Petersburg, Russia E-mail: anna.khrunenkova@mail.ru ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0564-5671 RSCI: https://elibrary.ru/author_profile.asp?id=537828 Abstract.
