Abstract.<\/strong> In recent years, women have been increasingly involved in the socio-economic processes taking place in the country. This cannot but create certain contradictions in the system of communicative practices that arise in the system of interpersonal communication. One of the extreme forms of social contradictions is the commission of crimes. Women who commit crimes are reasonably isolated from society in specific correctional institutions. One of the key tasks of the application of punishment in the form of imprisonment is the formation of the legal awareness of convicts. The article is devoted to a little\u2013developed and very relevant topic for modern sociology \u2014 the formation of the legal consciousness of convicted women in penitentiary institutions. According to the authors, the so-called gender approach, which is actively used in foreign sociology, can be used as a methodological basis. In particular, the article highlights the gender differences that, on the one hand, are caused by the specifics of punishment in the form of imprisonment, and on the other, by the peculiarities of the system of relations that develops in the same-sex female staff of the penitentiary institution. Exploring the peculiarities of women’s legal consciousness, the authors come to interesting conclusions that are far from indisputable, inviting the reader to join the discussion on the designated topic \u2014 the formation of the legal consciousness of convicted women in correctional institutions.<\/p>\n
