Abstract.<\/strong> This article examines the impact of translation quality, timing and styling of subtitles on viewers’ perception of audiovisual content. The theory chapter provides an overview of key features of audiovisual translation, such as multimodality and intertextuality, where the translator works not only with text but also with visual and audio elements. It has been noted that the quality of translation affects viewers’ understanding of the plot, characters, and emotional responses, which is particularly important for culturally specific works.<\/p>\n

The practical part presents the results of an experiment in which students from Perm National Research Polytechnic University watched excerpts from an animated sitcom with subtitles of varying quality. The experiment demonstrated how subtitle quality impacts viewers’ emotional engagement, viewing comfort, and overall interest in the work, reinforcing the importance of audiovisual translation for an accurate and immersive perception of culturally rich content across languages. The authors also emphasize the significance of cultural adaptation and the translator’s skill in conveying complex linguistic and visual puns and humor from the original.<\/p>\n

The article highlights a multidisciplinary approach to audiovisual translation. Such an approach ensures a deeper understanding of content, fosters interest in foreign media, and facilitates cultural exchange, which is especially crucial in today\u2019s globalized world. The authors emphasize the translator’s key role in conveying not only the text but also the artistic vision necessary for comprehensive viewer engagement.<\/p>\n
