The characterized phraseological units representing wild animals are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time as research material.

While analyzing the material the following conclusions were made: zoomorphic images with a negative assessment in Kalmyk and English reveal a great semantic diversity. The phraseological units characterizing a person with a negative assessment are much similar in both languages. They are combined into such similar phraseosemantic groups: (1) greediness, (2) cunning, (3) guile, (4) cowardice.

In the Kalmyk and English languages the zoonyms wolf and fox are the most active phraseological units among the wild animals.

The semantics of phraseological units with the zoonyms wolf, fox, hare and lion in English cultures have positive connotations to a greater extent, although negative connotations are also observed in the proverbs of the Kalmyk language. As the materials of our study show, in the Kalmyk language the zoonym fox have both negative and positive connotations.th phraseological units.

Keywords: phraseological units; zoonyms; proverbs; zoomorphic image; semantics; negative assessment; connotations

Chedzhieva Zhanna Dzhalaevna Kalmyk State University named after B.B.
