Abstract.<\/strong> Relevance. The article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of «digital» neighborhood that has become relevant in recent years \u2014 the analysis of motives, tasks and features of online and offline activity of members of local digital communities of citizens \u2014 neighborhood groups in social networks and chats in instant messengers.<\/p>\n

The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time, within the framework of the present research project, an analysis of regional digital communities was carried out in comparison with local neighborhood groups in Moscow, key differences were established that determine further trends in the development of the «digital neighborhood» in Moscow and the regions.<\/p>\n

Aim. The purpose of the article is to provide informational support for a more precise focusing of the policy of executive authorities and local self-government, both in Moscow and in the regions, focused on interaction with civil society institutions; to provide them with feedback from the population on key issues of their activities; to prevent the escalation of social conflicts in the territory.<\/p>\n

Materials and methods. The empirical material of the work was obtained in the course of a sociological survey of members of 62 of these communities with a total number of participants of 5192106 people, conducted in 5 cities of Russia, differing in population and level of socio-economic development: in three megacities; a city with a population of less than a million and one of the district centers.
\nResults. The study describes the motives for citizens to join digital communities, the degree and frequency of their contact with them; forms of activity of residents in neighborhood online groups; topics discussed in the communities; assessment by citizens of the possibility of virtual communications to raise problematic issues with the authorities, as well as types of offline activities that were initiated in the format of online communication of neighborhood groups.<\/p>\n

Conclusion. The results obtained allow us to consider digital communities as a potential tool for participation in solving urgent problems of territorial development.<\/p>\n
