Comparative study of unrelated and multi-structural languages from the point of view of linguoculturological approaches to one of the valuable part of the cultural code of any ethnic group \u2014 phraseology \u2014 allows us to identify typological and national-specific features of linguistic worldviews. Phraseological units help to better understand the culture and history of the people through the national language. The scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the first attempt is being made to compare proverbs and sayings with the &#171;animals&#187; component in the Kalmyk and English languages. The subject of our research are animalistic proverbs and sayings of the Kalmyk and English languages, expressing a person&#8217;s attitude to work. The use of animal images is different in the proverbs of the two ethnic groups, however, semantic similarities are also revealed. In Kalmyk proverbs, the names of mainly domestic animals are used. This is explained by the fact that the main economic activity of the Kalmyks was cattle breeding. In English culture images of domestic and wild animals are used equally. As a result, it is determined that the essence of proverbs and sayings can be understood by correlating them with certain human qualities. According to their connotative properties, phraseological units are divided into positive and negative.
