Abstract. The aim of the work is to study the life values of modern Russian youth at a turning point in time on the example of technical colleges in St. Petersburg. The study of a person’s value orientations is important enough to find out the reasons for his actions and deeds. The work was carried out in 3 stages.

At the first stage, 30 proposed value orientations were ranked. Processing of data obtained in 2019 based on 140 questionnaires completed by students of two colleges.

In the second phase in February 2023, respondents (115 students) were asked to answer 28 questions, completed in the form of a multiple-choice dialogue with college students. The questions are designed to find out how the student feels in college and what his values are. Questions are also directed at his political and patriotic leanings. At this stage, an integral processing of the results was performed. In parallel, focus groups were considered, which stood out during the processing of data from this survey.

At the third stage, a more detailed comparison of the results of the integral processing and the most prominent focus group, the “Z” group, was made (these are the guys who gave a positive answer to the question: “After graduation, would you like to leave and live abroad”. There were more than 25 % of such guys).

Among other things, the values of the Soviet era and the modern one were widespread.

The author paid special attention in the article to such value orientations as responsibility, study and education, material values, family and friends, patriotism, self-realization and ways to achieve them.

Based on the results obtained, the author concludes that the current opinion that the current generation is lost is not true, that it is possible and necessary to work with it and this will bring the proper results.

Keywords: Russian youth; focus groups; values; value orientations; material values; spiritual and moral values; patriotism
