Abstract. The article analyzes the religious and political processes taking place in Russia and in the world, in a constantly changing reality. In particular, we are talking about the ability of the current extensive religious picture to adapt to new forms of political participation. Thus, attention is paid to innovations that include, among other things, the symbolization of a space where religious symbols are used either to attract new adherents to their side, or as a kind of means of manipulation in politics. Various secularization trends are mentioned, as well as trends towards deterritorialization and reterritorialization, which are influenced by various circumstances, mostly political ones. The emergence of new theories is noted, symbolizing the situation with religion, including in the global political arena — religious economics, post-secularism, etc.
The article examines new rapidly spreading religions and religious movements, as well as the so-called non-modern ones — modern atheist movements that follow separate religious principles and values (only «family and work»). The number of modern religions and their classification are given, based, firstly, on their inherent properties, and secondly, on the principles and values they adhere to.
In order to realize the interests of society and each social group individually, issues of state-confessional relations are raised, including a comparative solution to the problem of communication between the church and ministries and departments, representing centralized and decentralized models of these relationships in the political field of Russia.
Keywords: geopolitical situation; local religious and political processes; religious values; human rights of believers; socio-religious movements; state-confessional concordat
