Abstract. Information openness of the activities of local authorities is an important indicator of assessing their effectiveness.
The analysis of domestic and foreign literature in this area made it possible to generalize the essence and content of information openness of the activities of government bodies and local governments, considered the features of the regulatory regulation of information openness of the activities of government bodies and local governments in the Russian Federation.
The authors analyzed the results of a survey conducted on the official website of the Altai Territory Government using information and telecommunication networks and information technologies in 2018–2019.

The authors made conclusions about the degree of satisfaction of the population of the city of Rubtsovsk with the degree of information openness of local governments based on the results of the survey.

The authors presented the results of their own sociological research on the attitude of the population to the activities of the press service in local governments in the field of information openness. This study was conducted using a questionnaire survey of residents of the city of Rubtsovsk in the Altai territory aged 18 to 60 years (n = 154). Processing of empirical data was carried out by the method of frequency analysis and by analyzing significant statements regarding various aspects of the population’s attitude to the activities of the press service of the Rubtsovsk city Administration. Based on the model of variables tested for the presence of significant statements, multiple logistic regression models were created using SPSS 20.0.
As a result of the survey, significant data was obtained. For example, young people believe that the municipal government of the city shows insufficient interest in the opinion of citizens, but the activities of the press service of the Rubtsovsk city Administration are evaluated quite highly. At the same time, the Mature population gives the lowest assessment of the press service of the Rubtsovsk city Administration in the field of information policy.

Men with secondary education claim that television is the main means of obtaining information about the activities of the administration of the city of Rubtsovsk.
At the end of the article, the authors offered some recommendations for improving the efficiency of the press service of the administration of the city of Rubtsovsk in the Altai territory.
