Abstract. The article analyzes the somatic lexis of the Kalmyk language in the context of describing the heroic actions of the hero and his heroic horse. The analysis was based on texts of national versions of the heroic epos “Dzhangar” (Kalmyk and Xinjiang-Oirat). Somatisms, representing one of the oldest layers of the Kalmyk language, reflect the peculiarities of nomadic everyday life, the military experience and epic world view of the Kalmyk world around. Somatic lexis, represented in «Dzhangar», is considered in the lexical-semantic aspect.

The names of the parts of the human body (the hero’s) and the horse (the hero’s horse) are analyzed, which we have combined into the following thematic subgroups: head and its parts (amn – mouth, chikn – ears, nudn – eyes, khamr – nose, khachr – cheek, khamrin nukn – nostril, khongshar – muzzle, soya – tusk, aran – canine, keln – tongue, orgn – jaw); neck (kүzүn – neck, ser – cervical vertebra); corpus (nurһn – back, zo – ridge (spine), bogtrh – resurrection bone, caar – croup, del – mane, ovtsyn – sternum, ochr syl – tail base, syl – tail); limbs and their parts (har – hand, motr – hand, right hand, alkhn – palm, sy – armpit, kol – leg, savr – limb; turun – hoof, kha – front leg (of animal); internal organs (zurkn – heart).

The study of somatic lexis is carried out taking into account the peculiarities of the epic context, the comparative description of the semantics of a particular lexeme in its various combinations in the Kalmyk and Xinjiang-Oirat versions of the epos “Dzhangar”, which makes it possible to most fully reveal the features of the semantic structure of the word. In this aspect, the somatic lexis of the Kalmyk language is considered for the first time.
