Abstract. Have been analyzed the lexical system of the language it can be determined that there are particular words limited in connections and such phenomena are studied by phraseology. The authors of the article examine the definitions of such сoncepts as “phraseologism” and “phraseological unit” relying on both Russian and foreign linguists. The article provides examples of the phraseological units usage in a wide field of formal business relations. But special attention is paid to business English in the field of fire safety where there are also different ways of expressing different phraseological units. Have been considered the written and oral forms of business English phraseological units with a motivated and unmotivated meaning as well as with an insufficiently motivated meaning were identified. Examples of the above types of phraseological units are given they are used in oral and written form of professional communication (in negotiations, writing different documents, etc.). The authors characterize completely unmotivated units which are expressed by standard cliched phrases. Similar cliché phrases are widely used in information letters, invitation letters, inquiry letters, letters of recommendation and others. Cliched phrases include both stylistically neutral and stylistically marked or unmarked lexical units, in support of the above examples of phrase cliches from business English in the field of fire safety are given. Phraseological units play a specific role in the professional communication language can also include professionalism and professional jargonisms helping quickly give and receive important and necessary information to fire safety engineers and rescuers.
