Abstract. As the world becomes more globalized, business organizations face new challenges as their representatives face intercultural situations. Thus, this article studies the personal opinions of representatives of Chinese and Russian cultures working in a multicultural business environment, the relationship between cultural diversity and the effectiveness of their intercultural communication in business. In this paper we study the main works that contribute to the knowledge of the formation of cultural values and their impact in the context of business, especially when it comes to international cooperation. To better understand the relationship between cultural background and effective business communication, an interview was conducted in 2017 among 20 Russian and Chinese representatives working in the international environment. The author presents an analysis of the study, which showed that even if respondents expressed the negative impact of cultural differences on communication, they also showed a positive attitude to intercultural interactions. It is no longer sufficient for business people to ignore their own culture, to understand and accept the differences of cultures different from their own. In addition, ignoring or even disrespecting the different cultural values of the interacting persons was considered as the main barriers in intercultural communication, and such barriers can be avoided when a different cultural background is respected. Although it was believed that cultural differences impede the work of the respondents and are often the source of their dissatisfaction, they do not let them engage in cross-cultural communication.
